Drenthe is the Netherlands’ cycling paradise, rich with expansive heaths, rolling hills, lakes and sand drifts, rugged forests and meandering streams. The landscape is asking to be explored! With no fewer than 2100 kilometres of well-maintained cycle paths, Drenthe offers you limitless possibilities. Cycling will not only lead you through beautiful natural scenery but also into historic villages and cultural sites that you’ll find around every corner.

For the real fanatic hiker, Drenthe offers the ultimate experience! Hundreds of kilkometers of footpaths and trails lie at your feet. You can choose between various hiking routes.

You can rent a bicycle at Hotel Assen for an attractive price. As a hotel guest or Valk Loyal member, you can rent a 7-gear bicycle from € 12.50 per day (if you book as a passer-by, this will be from € 17.50 per day). We also offer the possibility to rent an electric bicycle from € 22.50 per day for our hotel guests and Valk Loyal members (if you book as a passer-by, this will be from € 27.50 per day). Reserve a bike quickly via the link and receive € 5 discount on your bike!

For guests who do not spend the night in the hotel an extra deposit applies, for more information please refer to our reception.

Bicycle Shed

We have a closed bicycle shed for our hotel guests. The closed bicycle shed is free to use, however it is not possible to reserve a place in advance. The availability of a place in the closed bicycle shed is entirely based on availability. There is a possibility to charge your electric bicycle.

With no fewer than 5000 information panels and 20,000 route markers, getting lost is simply not an option in Drenthe. The extensive cycling junction system is perfect for if you want to plan your own route and the number of kilometres you end up cycling. Apart from choosing your own route, you can also select one of the sign-posted ANWB themed routes.

There are also various websites that allow you to map out your cycling route across the various junctions.
