National parks

You will come to the most beautiful places in the three National Parks of Drenthe. You end up in one large nature reserve and that is pampering, on foot or by bike. From forest, to heath, to stream valley and sand drifts. You will enter a world where the shepherd walks around quietly with his sheep, where ancient dolmens can be found and where you see cart tracks from centuries ago. Get to know Drenthe and visit the Dwingelderveld, the Drents-Friese Wold and the Drentsche Aa.

Nature reserves

Nature reserves

Of course we are proud that Drenthe has no fewer than three National Parks, but our nature reserves are in no way inferior to them. The Hondsrug, the Bargerveen, the Onlanden, the Balloërveld, Fochteloërveen: Drenthe overflows with nature. Come and experience it for yourself, you just keep looking around!

Dolmens

Dolmens

Did you know that dolmens are the oldest monuments in the Netherlands? These prehistoric monuments are located in the most diverse places, often beautifully hidden in the forest. The largest is located near Borger, where the Hunebedcentrum is also located nearby. How nice is it to visit as many of these alleged funerary monuments of the Funnel Beaker People from thousands of years ago? They are built from boulders that were brought to Drenthe during the Ice Age.

Sheepfolds

Sheepfolds

Meet the shepherd and his sheep and visit a sheepfold. In Drenthe you will find 11 sheepfolds. It is a beautiful sight when a few hundred ladies come here or leave for a long day on the moors. The grazing sheep ensure that the heath is less likely to graze. By 'pruning' the heather bushes, the heather remains strong and healthy. Itinerant flocks of sheep are therefore not only beautiful to see. They are also of great value for both nature conservation and cultural history.
