Assen en Surroundings

Assen is the capital of the province of Drenthe. From authentic villages to atmospheric cities, a varied landscape and rich past, annual events and festivals and friendly, hospitable people. Drenthe has it all and much more. Visit the sheep herd in Exloo, the beautiful village of Orvelte, the moors or one of the three national parks in the immediate vicinity of Assen. Drenthe is also the best cycling province from the Netherlands!

The Drents Museum in Assen has been a household name in Drenthe for more than 150 years. It is a leading museum that annually organizes high-profile and successful exhibitions on archeology, figurative art and Art Nouveau/Art Deco.

TT Circuit

The famous TT-Circuit Assen is a circuit that is used for the TT Assen, World Championship Superbike and DTM. The TT is the only grand prix in the world that is continuously on the calendar. Since 1925, Assen has been ridden at the highest global level. All champions rode and won on the Drenthe heath.

Attending the TT is an unforgettable experience, because it goes much further than the training sessions and/or the competitions.

Shopping

Hotel Assen is approximately 20 minutes' walk and 5 minutes by car from the city center of Assen. Here you will find an extensive range of shops and nice restaurants.

A day of shopping in Assen? Hotel Assen is an excellent base for this. Stroll through the pleasant shopping area in the center or the Koopmansplein shopping center. Rest in between in one of the many cozy catering establishments.

Asserbos

The Asserbos is an urban forest located in Assen, between the shopping center and the residential area of Baggelhuizen. It is one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands and covers an area of approximately 114 hectares. About 10 hectares is still primeval forest.

Baggelhuizerplas

The Baggelhuizerplas is a lake and recreation area with beaches, lawns and forests. The area is right behind our hotel. From the hotel you can walk straight into the beautiful nature reserve. The lake was created from a sand excavation. The recreation area is 125 hectares in size, wooded, wet and spacious. The lake has a large beach, play island and platform in the water with slide and cable car. The water is about 2.5 m deep. On site you will also find a kiosk, toilets, a shower and sports fields (volleyball court and football field). There is a special BBQ/picnic area near the bathing area. The lake itself is located in a large recreational area where you can also enjoy cycling or walking.

Drentsche Golf & Country Club

Just north of Assen, you will find the Drentsche Golf & Country Club. With a 27-hole championship course and 9-hole Par 3 course, an unprecedented spacious and varied golf course accessible to golfers of all levels.
